A Google Street View Tour of Paris with James Howard Kunstler

Today’s new Kunstlercast, the weekly podcast by James Howard Kunstler and Duncan Crary, features Jim taking listeners on a virtual walking tour of Paris, France using Google Street View. Paris is a classic example of great urban design and an examination of it is helpful in understanding what urbanism means. The Kunstlercast player is embedded above, allowing you to listen here on Fort Worthology. Below, I’ve embedded the Google Street View scenes that Jim and Duncan use to tour the city.

Note on using Google Street View: Hover your mouse over the image and click the white arrows to move up and down the street. You can change the camera view by grabbing the image with your mouse and dragging left, right, up, or down to change the camera angle. Double click on the viewing window to zoom in. For a larger viewing window, click the “View Larger Map” link below each image window.

The Fort Worthology Show, Episode 2: The Tarrant County College Buildings

[display_podcast]

(To watch the podcast now, just click “Play Now” above!)

It’s back! The Fort Worthology Show returns to the podcasting airwaves, retooled and brought back after a long hiatus. Join co-host Stephanie Scarborough and myself as we talk Fort Worth urbanism, architecture, transit, and more. Today’s episode: the Tarrant County College buildings. We unload quite a bit of strong dislike on the cancelled TCC campus buildings and a lot of modernism in general on this one – hey, we’re traditionalists, what can we say? So, if you’re a modernist fan, don’t say we didn’t warn you.

The Fort Worthology Show

The Fort Worthology Show – Coming Soon

People have been asking me about this since the debut of the West And Clear podcast, and now it’s finally happening – Fort Worthology will be debuting its own podcast soon! The Fort Worthology Show will be rather different from the West And Clear podcast (which I will continue to be a part of) – rather than being a discussion about general Fort Worth topics, The Fort Worthology Show will be a simple conversation about urban design & development and the negatives of suburban sprawl between myself and either a regular participant (perhaps contributer Stephanie) or a guest. Nothin’ too fancy. Each episode will likely be 15 minutes long or so.

We’re working on putting together the first episode. Stay tuned!

West and Clear Podcast – It’s a Holiday Party

This week on the West and Clear Podcast, Steve-o, Pete W., and I talk “Amahl and the Night Visitors” at the Rose Marine, Los Noviembres, the 100k House, the completion of St. Patrick’s Cathedral downtown, the “St. Nick” casting call, the upcoming District 9 runoff election, Brave Combo Dec. 21st at McDavid Studio downtown, and more. Click on over to West and Clear to listen or subscribe via iTunes!

Opening Night for the Scat Jazz Lounge

So, the West and Clear team (yours truly included) settled into our booth in the Scat Jazz Lounge for opening night last night. You might be wondering – how was it?

Short answer: Outstanding. Best thing to happen to downtown Fort Worth in years.

For the long answer, head over to West and Clear to read Steve-o’s write up and check out the quick podcast live from opening night.
