Revealed: New XTO Building At 7th & Calhoun

The image above is our first look at the new building being planned by XTO Energy for the block at 7th & Calhoun across from the historic Binyon-O’Keefe Warehouse that XTO’s moving into. The new building features a few floors of office space and then several floors of parking. Local firm Hahnfeld Hoffer [...]

Better Renderings Of Texas & Pacific Warehouse Redevelopment

I’ve now got some much better renderings of the in-planning Texas & Pacific Warehouse redevelopment project, and I know you would all love to see them. :) These are much better than the renderings I’ve shown before. The renderings depict the Texas & Pacific Warehouse converted into loft apartments with ground-floor retail, [...]

The Carnegie Progress

Construction on The Carnegie, the new 16-story Class A office tower in Sundance Square, is just about complete. I saw a tenant moving in recently, most likely EOG Resources. The building’s traditional design is turning out very well indeed, in my opinion. Now, some detail shots.

I love the building’s detailing on the [...]

Omni Hotel Progress

As can be seen at the top of the building in the photo above, the steel framing of the crown on the Omni Hotel & Condos is now being assembled. The framing will be covered with glass like that used on the condo tower portion of the building below it, giving an angled “swoop” [...]

XTO Planning New Building At 7th & Calhoun

A tip of the hat to The Recyclican, who noticed this Star-Telegram article by John Austin. XTO Energy is making plans for a new building at 7th & Calhoun, across the street from the historic Binyon O’Keefe warehouse they’re restoring.
The $38 million building would occupy the block bounded by Seventh, Jones, Calhoun [...]

Notes From Tom Struhs Presentation On Trinity Bluff - Bass Family Planning Grocery Market

I was unable to attend the presentation developer Tom Struhs gave on the Trinity Bluff project at the TRV offices last night, but I’ve pieced together some notes from the presentation from various sources. Here’s some of the interesting stuff Mr. Struhs revealed:

The Bass family is in some sort of planning stages for a [...]

Star-Telegram Puts Main Downtown Building Up For Sale

Not long after putting their nifty jet-age Classifieds Building up for sale, the Star-Telegram has done something surprising and rather disappointing: they’re putting their main office building downtown up for sale. The historic Star-Telegram Building was built in 1920 and designed by the legendary local firm Sanguinet & Staats. It [...]

The Cassidy Plaque

UPDATE 2: Reader jefffwd writes that the domain name “thecassidy.com” was registered on August 1st by the Enilon Group, a local web design and marketing company. One of Enilon’s clients is none other than Sundance Square Management.
The plot thickens. More info as it becomes available.
UPDATE: There is some word that the [...]

The Cassidy - Signs of Life for Sundance Square Condo Tower?

I’m hearing that crews have installed a logo for the Cassidy, the long-rumored 22-story condo tower planned for the southeast corner of the intersection of 3rd & Throckmorton downtown. Could we be at long last nearing the start of the project?
Not much is known about the Cassidy, except that it’s a Bass family project, [...]

On The Height Of The Omni

There has been some confusion out there about the Omni Hotel’s recent topping out ceremony at 447 feet. The height of the building had been widely reported at 547 feet - this had always been my understanding. So what happened to the other 100 feet?
Omni didn’t actually drop 100 feet. The building [...]

Star-Telegram Classifieds Building Sold To Fort Worth Club

The Star-Telegram is reporting that the Fort Worth Club has bought the properties they had for sale (several parking lots and the Star-Telegram Classifieds Building shown above), and the organization plans to use them all for parking:
FORT WORTH — The Fort Worth Club is under contract to buy the Star-Telegram’s four-story annex building, [...]

Carnegie Nears Completion, Picking Up Tenants

The Carnegie, the new Sundance Square office building designed by David M. Schwarz, is nearing completion and tenant announcements are starting to be made. The Fort Worth Business Press reports that Comerica will join EOG Resources as a tenant:
As construction wraps up at The Carnegie building in downtown Fort Worth, Dallas-based Comerica Bank has [...]

More TCC Photos

Grabbed these three photos of TCC from the street. The fourth came from Fort Worth Forum member monee9696 from the Paddock Viaduct.

Thoughts:
1. Yes, this is how they planned it to turn out.
2. The pit is getting glass. I find it odd that the pit gets glass while the streetscape has to [...]

TCC Facade Not Exactly Getting Better

Fort Worth Forum member monee9696 has taken more photos of the TCC buildings on the Trinity Bluff being built, and they’re putting more facade on them. Unfortunately, it appears to be getting worse as they progress. As you can see, pretty much the entire Belknap frontage is a blank concrete slab wall.
This is [...]

More On The TCC Facade

I wrote this response to somebody on another site who professed to liking the TCC’s concrete slab facade I posted the photo of yesterday - and used it as a chance to ding modern-day traditional architecture (represented by the Carnegie now under construction in Sundance Square). Thought I’d share. Warning: anti-modernist screed [...]

TCC Facade Material

It looks as though the facade is going up on what’s left of the original TCC campus buildings, and thanks to Fort Worth Architecture Forum member monee9696 we now have a photo, taken from The Tower. I have to say that after all the TCC controversy, and after all the vague renderings, to see [...]

Burnett Park Redesign Underway

Unless they’re just doing a heck of a maintenance job, it looks like the long-rumored redesign of Burnett Park downtown is underway. Crews are removing flowers and shrubs as I write this, and the fountains have all be shut off and drained. The plans for the park are several: the granite planter [...]

Council Approves Demolishing 7th Street Bridge

It didn’t get much press, and in fact most of the people I know didn’t even hear about it. Nevertheless, the City Council voted in late May to demolish the 7th Street bridge over the Trinity to replace it with a new bridge which will be able to accommodate the Cultural District line of [...]

714 Main

XTO Energy continues their restoration of 714 Main to its original appearance - here, you see the building’s original facade, exposed after the removal of two modernizations.

Caceria Building & 500 Commerce

Wagner Oil’s new Caceria Building is really looking like a gem. They’ve clearly spent a lot of time and money on the building’s beautiful detail work. The Caceria Building is a new mixed-use retail/office building.

Next door at 500 Commerce (also owned by Wagner Oil), the building’s ground floor renovations are nearly complete - [...]

United Way Building

The former United Way Building at 9th & Commerce across from the Convention Center will be demolished soon and replaced by a new 150-room Hampton Inn, being developed by Pearl Real Estate.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral

The restoration of St. Patrick’s Cathedral continues, and is presumably leading up to the finishing touch of the project - the completion of the church’s twin steeples, planned but never built.

City Parking Garage

The new city parking garage across from the Convention Center and behind the Omni is steadily rising. Not much to look at yet, but when complete it will have a very interesting facade. Not to mention its interior, which will play the “sounds of Fort Worth” as ambient noise and play musical tones [...]

Omni Hotel & Condos

My friend John Roberts, architect and creator of the great Architecture in Fort Worth web site, says the Omni’s got two more occupied floors and four mechanical floors left to go before it tops out. It is certainly starting to have a dramatic presence. Not much more to report, really, so just enjoy [...]

The Carnegie

A lot of the work underway on the Carnegie now is the installation of the building’s ornate stone detailing at the top and ground-level. I really love the way the building’s turning out. Details:

There’s a pretty clear view of the stonework going in at the building’s upper levels. I like the design [...]
