No, it’s still not open, but they are really doing a big makeover to the little box at 7th & Carroll - and you have to love the ever-changing messages on their sign.

West 7th
At the West 7th development by Cypress Equities, things are moving right along as well. The development’s first structure, the parking garage shown above, has topped out. This garage, fortunately, will be concealed on one side with decorative facade work, will be surrounded on the other three sides by a mixed-use retail/apartment building, [...]
Museum Place
Museum Place has been making big progress. Above, you see One Museum Place, the development’s large mixed-use retail/office/condo building at the big University/Camp Bowie/7th/Bailey intersection. Lots of facade work is underway on the building at the moment.
Across 7th, the new Flatiron-style mixed-use retail/office building has topped out and facade prep is underway. [...]
West 7th Update
The West 7th development is beginning to rise on more of its blocks. The first structure to go up, the parking garage seen in the photo above, has topped out, and now concrete columns are rising around it for what will be an apartment building with ground-level retail. On the next block to [...]
New Site Plans For West 7th
I’ve received these two new plans for the under-construction West 7th development by Cypress Equities in the Cultural District. The plan above shows the location of the already announced retail tenants in the development - it’s a little blurry, but you can see where the Movie Tavern, Lucky Strike, Fireside Pies, and the rest [...]
J & J’s Hideaway Closes Shop
A note related to Museum Place - J & J’s Hideaway, the long-running bar between 7th & Darcy in the Cultural District, has closed. The Hideaway’s last night was last night - I was doing some photography around the Kimbell and could hear the celebration from the courtyard.
The Hideaway will be demolished soon as [...]
Museum Place Flatiron Tops Out
The new “Flatiron” style building at the big intersection in Museum Place has already topped out - one of the advantages of steel frame construction is the quick pace that work can be done at. In fact, if you were near the building yesterday, you would have seen an American flag and a pine [...]
Museum Place Flatiron
Took this twilight photo of the new Flatiron-style building at Museum Place going up. The building’s triangular form is really starting to become noticeable now. Click for a bigger view.
As a side note, I may or may not take tomorrow off from posting. If I do, then happy 4th of July to [...]
The Tornado-Bent Poles Are Back!
That’s right - the famed metal poles which held an advertising billboard until the 2000 tornado ripped through the city are back at last at the new Museum Place development. The poles, stripped of their billboard and bent sharply over by the tornado, are being reinstalled today as part of the new public plaza [...]
SoSeven Shops & Lofts
The first building of SoSeven’s Shops & Lofts is nearing completion of its exterior, and we’re now getting a good look at the building’s appearance. There have been seemingly countless different designs and renderings of the buildings shown since the project began, and sure enough the final product is a little different from what [...]
Museum Place “Flatiron” Going Up
The new “Flatiron” style building at 7th, Camp Bowie, and University is now getting the steel framing of its upper floors added to the concrete first floor. Part of the Museum Place development, the “Flatiron” will see three floors of office space atop ground-floor retail/restaurant space. Click the images for a bigger view.
There [...]
SoSeven’s Shops & Lofts - Progress
Like the other developments on 7th, the Shops & Lofts at So7 are steadily progressing. The first building is getting more stucco and windows installed. This building will be office space with ground-floor retail. The larger building on the left is up and out of its underground garage, and progressing towards moving [...]
New West Bend Rendering And Site Plan, Plus Possible Tenants
West Bend, the project which aims to transform the rather bleak site of the dreary River Plaza office building on University across from University Park Village into a mixed-use center of retail, hotel, and office space, has broken ground and gotten underway in the last few days. I’ve managed to grab ahold of a [...]
Museum Place Progress Update
Museum Place in the Cultural District is really making significant strides in construction these days. The area around the development is a world of torn-up pavement, orange cones, fences, and cranes as work steadily moves from the big 7th/University/Camp Bowie/Bailey intersection back into the neighborhood.
Above, the big building of the development, One Museum Place, [...]
New Renderings: The Stayton At Museum Way
I’ve now gotten ahold of three renderings of The Stayton At Museum Way, the retirement condo towers going in as part of the SoSeven mixed-use development in the Cultural District. The Stayton consists of three eleven-story towers, sited at the back of the SoSeven property (in the large empty lot that currently exists between [...]
Better SoSeven Progress Photos
Had the opportunity recently to get some much better progress photos over at SoSeven in the Cultural District. The building rising up from the underground garage is nearly finished with the ground floor, from which we’ll see the next floors rise (I’m guessing these will be of wood frame construction, which would make this [...]
SoSeven Progress
The first building of SoSeven’s Shops & Lofts has now had some of its [...]
So7 Progress
Over at So7, the first building of the Shops & Lofts is now getting glass installed and stucco applied to its facade. Before long, it should be easier to see how it’s going to look once completed. Meanwhile, the next Shops & Lofts Building is now starting to rise from the underground parking [...]
Making Way For Aloft - Another Museum Place Demolition
Apologies for the low-quality photo - ’twas evening and I had no tripod. Nevertheless, another building has fallen in the path of Museum Place. This time, it was the white brick building behind Domain that seemed to have mainly been medical offices. It’s been demolished to clear the way for the development’s [...]
Three Modern Pics
I took these at Modern ‘Til Midnight, and they’re some of the best Modern photos I think I’ve taken. Click for a bigger view.
Museum Place “Flatiron” going vertical
The triangular (Flatiron-style) Museum Place building across 7th from One Museum Place is headed upward. This building, which will be four stories tall, will be ground-level retail with three floors of office space.
Still planned is the conversion of the parking lot that sits between the rear of this building and the historic retail building [...]
New Southwest Bank Under Construction
The new Southwest Bank on 7th Street, which I broke the news about in February, is under construction. In fact, they’ve already framed the building (another 7th Street project in steel). Click for a bigger view:
The building will have retail space available to lease as well. It was designed by local architect Robert [...]
Modern ‘Til Midnight TONIGHT!
Don’t forget - tonight is Modern ‘Til Midnight, from 6:00 PM to, well, midnight (hence the name). Music will be many and varied - Yellow Fever, The Theater Fire, Trimble Tech High School Marching Band (directed by Earnest Colvin playing a composition by Patrick Grant), PPT, and Strange Fruit Project. Food and drinks. [...]
Another Building Rising At SoSeven
While we were all too busy ogling the crane at West 7th, the construction crews at SoSeven have already gotten another building out of the ground - and up to its second story, no less. The first Shops & Lofts building is getting closer to having its facade put on. The second building, [...]
Creating A Plaza For the Cultural District
The area shown in the red circle above is the subject in question - as part of the Museum Place development, a public plaza is will be constructed at the reworked intersection of West 7th Street and Arch Adams (Map). How can a plaza occupy the middle of a street? Read on and [...]
