Fort Worth Open Streets – Magnolia Avenue, Near Southside from Kevin Buchanan on Vimeo.
The first-ever Open Streets event in the Near Southside was yesterday, Sunday the 23rd, and it was a blast.
The event, in the style of Bogota’s Ciclovia, Portland’s Sunday Parkways, and other such events around the world, closed off a series of streets to car traffic and turned them over to the people. A route running Magnolia, 5th Avenue, and Allen became a combination linear park, street festival, and car-free active transportation route, drawing a big crowd to check out the activities or simply stroll/bike/skate/whatever along.
It’s hard to get across how cool Open Streets was in words – and fortunately, we don’t have to. We’ve made our very own Streetfilms-style video about the event, which you can watch above. Check it out – and then make sure to come to the second Open Streets event, happening this coming Sunday the 30th, also in the Near Southside on South Main, Broadway, and Jennings!
