Portland does, indeed, do a better job of preserving mid-century architecture.

Even Dallas has an advantage over us on this – they have more buildings from that period, and as such have seen several redeveloped in interesting ways. For us to just toss away our *one* Googie building in Downtown for a parking lot is shameful.

If this building was in Portland, OR, it would already be a crazy cool googie hotel or condos with a coffe shop in the ground floor. I guarantee.

If you’re truly concerned about saving this buidling, send the FW Club an email expressing your concern. I don’t know if it will actually help, but it can’t hurt. We need to start a frenzy over this building like we did with the old Knights of Pythias buidling.

This would be horrific & absolutely ridiculous if this iconic structure is demolished. I agree with Steph, have they ever heard of a parking garage?!?!?!? Perhaps one on their existing lots that has ground floor retail that will add to the urban fabric instead of destroying it.

News like this often makes me think of FW as having a ‘1 step forward, 2 steps back’ type of society.

Nooooooo!!!!! I love this building! If you demolish it, you would only gain a handful of parking spaces! They should build a garage on one of their existing parking lots instead.
