Jake's Hamburgers Now Open Downtown

Looks like Jake’s Hamburgers in Downtown, in the ground floor of the Shamrock Building at 5th & Main, is now open. If you visited the space before when it was a Chili’s, it’ll be pretty familiar to you – the interior looks roughly similar, but with less “stuff” on the walls. Fort Worthology had the black bean burger, shown above, and found it to be tasty – a grilled black bean patty, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mustard, on a poppy seed bun. The sweet potato crinkle fries were very tasty as well.

All in all, it’s an upgrade from Chili’s, and we figure Jake’s will do well. Even without much opening PR, the crowd yesterday was pretty big.

    Kevin,

What a timely post… My Special Lady Friend and I were heading to Fort Worth and wanted a place to grab a vegetarian meal. Certainly Jakes would *not* have been our first choice (we were heading to Spiral Diner). Read your post, saw the killer pic of the veggie burger and that is where we ate for lunch.

Two things I want to comment on specifically:

    1) The black bean burger was awesome. Period.
    2) The sweet potato fries have cinnamon on them which you should know about in case you are allergic or simply don’t like that spice… the tots are really good, though.

So over all, a great meal and Jakes is certainly an improvement over Chili’s in that space. That is all… oh wait, no it isn’t. One other thing:

    3) The scantly-clad waitresses were completely unexpected… it was rather in-your-face (or should I say *they* were a little in-your-face) and, well… I’m not complaining, I’m just saying that with my Special Lady Friend there, it made the meal a little less comfortable than I had expected it to be. Probably should know that before you round up the family and head down there.
