  1. Great looking stuff!

It reminds me of something Enrique Penalosa said in Austin during a Shifting Gears event, “Sidewalks are more closely related to parks than roadways, they are where people
meet, shop, talk, and interact. They are also the only real “public” land available in our cities today. They need expansion to the expense of the auto mobile.”

He also mentioned that a city public roadway without a sidewalk shows a complete disrespect for the individual citizen and complete respect for the motor vehicle.

Our current public roadways are not an intermodal choice, sure we allow bicyles, we suggest pedistrians, and we show buses, but they’re really just set up for single occupant motor vehicles.

Real sidewalks (where people can intermingle and commerce can happen), true bicycle access, and easy bus/street car access could transform our cities, our daily lives, and our quality of life. You see these things in livable cities- those where we often vacation to.

Nice stuff Kevin, thanks for posting.

  2. Additonally, regarding Bike Lanes/Routes and Fort Worth:

The City set up a FW Bicycle Study Technical Committee over a year ago, we’ve been working on FW’s 1st Comprehensive Bicycle Plan. It includes a long range map of routes/lanes and a in-depth policy guide for the city. The idea- truly incorporate bicycles into FW’s transportation plan.

Public Meetings are going on NOW!
Try to attend one of the following…

Four meetings are scheduled. The same presentation will be made at each meeting, but emphasis will be on the bikeway recommendations in the sector of the city nearest the meeting location.

Residents can give feedback on the recommended projects, programs and policies.

City staff and committee have spent the past year and a half developing a plan to improve conditions for bicyclists and to make bicycling a safe and attractive transportation alternative. City staff incorporated citizens’ ideas from
public meetings and surveys in 2007.

Best practices from around the country, tailored to the unique attributes of Fort Worth, were included. The result
is Bike Fort Worth, a comprehensive bicycle transportation plan.
