So sayeth Insano in the comments on our last post on the subject:
Jakes Hamburgers will be the new tenant – if you are familiar with it, they have one on McKinney Ave. in Dallas
For the curious, the web site for Jake’s is www.jakeshamburgers.net. I’ve never been, but I’m pretty sure I recall seeing them in Uptown the last time I was in Dallas. Thoughts?
Responsible and thoughtful comments are welcome. Be aware, though, that this site exists in part as an advocacy site for New Urbanism and its potential to remake Fort Worth into an even more livable city than it is today. Thoughtful dissent is generally welcome insofar as it fosters thoughtful replies. Inflammatory dissent, whether intentional or not, will be deleted. Commenters whose comments we routinely delete will be banned. Nothing personal, but this is a privately owned and operated web site, and we are aiming for a specific tone and audience. Work within those guidelines and all will be well.
They have a veggie burger and draft root beer, so I guess it can’t be that bad.
Gotta love poppy seed buns
Are they better than Kincaids?
They better be good. Stiff competition with the front-runners Kincaids, Fred’s, and Dutches. Not to mention B.J. Keefers and Loveshack, which I hear will be coming to the new 7th street development or the old Gunsmoke on Berry.
BJ Keefers has been gone for years.
Any word on what’s going in where Bennigan’s used to be in downtown? It’s been empty for a while.
Hmmm… I never thought that much of Jake’s on McKinney Avenue. It’s alright but just another ok hamburger place.
If we’re going to just keep importing Dallas-based restaurants, I’d have preferred a Snuffers.
No, they’re not better than Kincaid’s. At least the one in Dallas isn’t. They do have solid burgers, though.
I’d take a Freds burger any day of the week against a Jake’s burger. And I can say this for certain — my money will ALWAYS go to a local, Fort Worth owned business rather than a Dallas-owned transplant if I have the option. In this case, I do have the option, so you won’t see me at Jake’s.
I think Fred’s burgers are so much better than Kincaids. I just don’t think Kincaids has the greatest burgers. I’ve eaten at dutch’s once. The burger was no good. I haven’t been to Love Shack, but I want to try it out. Lili’s has good burgers too. I’ve never been to Jakes, but I do love draft root beer.
I heard that a Hooter’s was looking at that old Bennigan’s spot.
I’ve eaten at the one in Dallas and it’s okay. As mentioned the poppy seed bun makes it somewhat unique but I don’t think its on the level of Fred’s, Kincaid’s, Dutch’s, or even Pappas Burger.
It seems more like the trendy place to get a burger in Uptown.
Let’s all just be thankful that at least it’s not a bank.
I’m sure Jake’s will attract lots of college kids who are not as discriminating about their burgers.
Had Kincaids today. Hmmmmmm!!!! It was yummy!!!
Hooters is not coming downtown, that is just hearsay, but someone needs to utilize that prime space. At least the value of the chili’s space is not underestimated. Chili’s doesn’t know what they r gonna be missing out on, considering all the traffic the omni is about to bring in
At the rate downtown Fort Worth is going, we’ll take anything that A) is open for lunch B) is not $50 a plate and C) doesn’t require that you wear a shirt/tie, Kenneth Cole socks, etc.
Don’t get me wrong. I love some of downtown FW’s nice restaurants, but enough already. Based on the Jake’s that I’ve been to in Dallas, it may fill the niche recently vacated by the Pour House. It’s sort of like a cross between the Pour House and 8.0′s (cute servers, fun atmosphere, surprisingly good food) but with Billy Miners prices.
The burgers start out at $5 or $6. Be interesting to see if downtown FW rent will force them to up their prices.
What a nice change from the corporate scene to somthing home grown. Is it order at the counter like Billy M’s? Tap beer bar?
