Where I've Been, What I've Been Doing

If you’ve noticed that things have been a bit quiet around these parts lately, the image above reveals the reason why. I haven’t had much time to devote to the site because I’m in the process of remodeling a home in Fairmount (the historic urban neighborhood just south of downtown Fort Worth, for those unfamiliar with it). Understandably, this has occupied a lot of my time and energy of late. (The photo above does not reflect current progress.)

Things will likely be a little pokey around here for a while longer as the remodeling consumes most of my free time. Apologies. I hope y’all will understand.

Responsible and thoughtful comments are welcome. Be aware, though, that this site exists in part as an advocacy site for New Urbanism and its potential to remake Fort Worth into an even more livable city than it is today. Thoughtful dissent is generally welcome insofar as it fosters thoughtful replies. Inflammatory dissent, whether intentional or not, will be deleted. Commenters whose comments we routinely delete will be banned. Nothing personal, but this is a privately owned and operated web site, and we are aiming for a specific tone and audience. Work within those guidelines and all will be well.

    When’s the housewarming party?

Will you post some before and after pics so we can enjoy the progress?

    Recyclican,

Haven’t decided yet, but there will be one. At some point. (I say this nervously as I prepare to carve holes in the walls.)

    Tacoma,

I most certainly will. The house has already come a long, long way, and there’s more in store for it.

  4. I love the colors!! This does not look like an old house at all. I also live in Fairmount in a house whose inside is already done, fortunately. Keeping it clean is hard enough!

  5. I love the Fairmount area!! We are contemplating buying in that area as well. The night of the Arts Goggle we drove around there a bit looking at what houses were up for sale.

Would love to see how your place turns out. I think the houses in that area just have so much character.

We moved into Fairmount a few months ago and absolutely love it. It took a long time to find the right house. They are all so different and we were lucky enough to find one from 1918 with original woodwork and beams on the ceiling. It was mostly restored when we purchased it but we have still had to work on the foundation, electrical and plumbing. Is that an older home? It looks new in the photo you posted. Enjoy your home and getting it just the way you want it. Hope you’ll post progress photos as you go.
