Fort Worthology reader Mark R. sent me these photos of TCU’s new Student Union under construction at the end of their new campus commons. The new Student Union looks to be a very, very pretty piece of new traditional architecture (in stark and welcome contrast to the gray concrete slabs that Tarrant County College is building back downtown). As the Student Union nears completion and some more of the scaffolding comes down, I’ll get some more photos.
Thanks again to Mark R. for sending the photos! Oh, and as one of the new features of the new design, you’ll find a nice, easy “Send E-Mail To Fort Worthology” link to the right in the sidebar. Thanks, Mark!

TCU isn’t downtown and not part of TCC.
Err, nowhere did I claim either of those things. I think I know that TCU isn’t downtown and isn’t a part of TCC. I was simply making the point that TCU’s new buildings are actually attractive and of good urban design, compared with the TCC buildings downtown. Since both are colleges, they are of two opposite design philosophies, and both are under construction concurrently, I thought the point would come across.
Kevin, what you said made sense to me. No worries.
This is a pretty nice building. Is this supposed to open for the fall semester?
The building is open and operating! Texas country star Pat Green played a concert in the newly finished “Commons” last week, and the Trustees celebrated the building’s official Grand Opening. Extensive photos are available at magazine.tcu.edu.
Other TCU construction updates:
- The south endzone facility at AGC Stadium opened Friday for the Horned Frogs’ home opener against SFA. High class suites and club level are now available for those willing to pay a hefty price for premium luxury suites and a cash bar.
- Jarvis Hall, an original campus female residence hall from circa 1911 reopened as a space for student affairs, religious life, and the BNSF career center
- Clark Hall has reopened after complete renovations. The former all male hall is now occupied by co-ed first-year students.
- Sherley Hall is closed for the 2008-2009 academic year for complete renovations. From Cantey street you can see in the back and out the front of the building.
- The KinderFrogs / Starpoint School is currently constructing a gymnasium building.
- Milton Daniel Hall will close for the 2009-2010 academic year for complete renovations. Colby Hall Dormitory will follow in 2010-2011. Upon completion, all resdiences will have been built or completely renovated within a 10 year timeframe.
- Plans are floating for the complete AGC Stadium renovation, Ballet Building renovations/additions, and a new Fine Arts Complex
- The Brown-Lupton Student Center was demolished and dirt work is beginning for the new Scharbauer Hall. The completion of this facility in December 2009/January 2010 will complete the new Campus Commons project.
