It was only two days ago that I reported on the sale of the former United Way Building downtown to Pearl Real Estate, and commented on speculation that Pearl would use the site for a Westin Hotel. Now, reader Emanuel sends word that Globe St. is reporting that Pearl will indeed be demolishing the United Way Building and building new - but the replacement will be a 150-room Hampton Inn, not a Westin:
FORT WORTH-GlobeSt.com has confirmed that the owner of a Downtown tract, now holding a 56,000-sf shuttered office building, will scrape it and build a 150-room Hampton Inn. The tentative plan is to open the hotel in 2011.
A spokesman for the Beverly Hills, CA-based Hilton Hotels Corporation recently confirmed the franchisee’s project and timeframe for GlobeSt.com, but wouldn’t reveal the name of the new owner of the former United Way of Tarrant County building at 210 E. Ninth St., which has been owned by Charter Holdings LP since June 2007. Several calls to Charter Holdings weren’t returned. According to a locally published account, Pearl Real Estate, owner of two other hotels in Fort Worth, has taken the deed from the Dallas-based investment group, getting a prime infill location within walking distance of the convention center.
So, still great news. I look forward to seeing a rendering of the Hampton Inn and learning more details about the project. Thanks again to Emanuel for sending me the link!

That’s awesome news! I was just thinking the other day that downtown was going to need a more affordable counterpoint to the new Omni…
Hi Kevin,
Per Connie Gore - please edit your Globest quote to read Hilton - not Marriott.
Thanks,
