@ Brandon, et al: I turned off the comments on Pete W.'s post without consulting him or anyone else on our team. Perhaps a brash move on my part, by the comment thread was quickly devolving. I will say that there were several comments directed towards the recent flavor of West and Clear that we are taking very seriously as constructive criticism and those comments have prompted a lot of internal discussion. We always welcome any input from our readers because, well, that's the only way we are going to improve what we do. We are reasonable folks, we love our readers and the city of Fort Worth and we want to continue serving both. But we are also human and sometimes we don't always make the right choices especially when emotion is involved.

One would assume it was me, but it was not. I'm actually a bit miffed that comments were disabled, since that's sort of our "last resort, nuclear option" action.

That's fine Chewy, you can visit whatever sites you like. We're sorry to see you go -- your comments are a great addition to the discourse.

If you feel like trying again, you'll see that the top post on the site is from me, apologizing for what happened on the "Sartorial" post, FWTacoma's recent question about Fort Worth's "Style," and a trip report by me from Edelweiss German Restaurant.

I handled myself poorly in the "sartorial" post. I knew something was unsettling about the shirt Brimer was wearing, but I couldn't exactly put my finger on it. I assumed it was because the shirt was for an "outsourcing" company, but the more I thought about it (after having been resoundingly corrected in the comments), it turns out what I was really bothered by was the fact that he would choose to wear a shirt with a corporate logo to a campaign event. It just shows poor judgment, IMO.

Yes, I tried to spin it differently in the post. I was wrong to do that, and I have apologized on W&C, and now I'm apologizing to you and Brandon, since you say you no longer go there.

For the record, I did not turn off the comments on that post, nor have I ever, without putting a statement at either the bottom of the post or in the final comment stating WHY they're turned off. I'm man enough to admit when I'm wrong, and I deserved the drubbing I got.

I have to agree with Brandon on this one as well. There were no personal attacks other than your use of profanity and then someone turned off the commenting function. One would assume it was you.

On the surface it appears you were called out and didn't appreciate it and would not admit your original intentions. Even one of your own partners on the site questioned the intentions for your post. To me the intentions of your post were clear and you tried to spin it as an innocent post when clearly it wasn't. If you did intend it as an innocent post then your own perception of your posts are greatly skewed from the reality.

No worries though as I won't be visiting West and Clear anytime soon if that's the way you would like to run your site. I'll rely on sites like this one for information on what's going on in our fair burg. It wasn't just that post but the general direction of W&C was going down a path that I felt was a deviation from what it was intended to be.

Sorry for posting this Kevin, but since someone turned off the comments on the W&C post I wanted Pete to know my thoughts.

Well, the commenting was turned off on the "Sartorial Question" topic, and the conversation there was mostly constructive with one exception: You, yelling "Bull$4!t" to people who disagreed. The next thing I knew, the commenting was off.

Really, Brandon? Where, exactly, have I done this because people disagreed with me? I've done it because the comments have devolved into senseless personal attacks, but never because someone disagreed with me. Which I suppose is good, since it seems like pretty much everyone disagrees with me around here.
