DDRB Half-Approves New Lighting For T&P
By: Kevin Buchanan

As I noted in a previous post, one of the items up for review by the Downtown Design Review Board this month was a proposal to light the top of the Texas & Pacific station/lofts. The proposed design would have seen the four domes at the roof’s corners and the parapet walls between them lit. Now, I’m hearing from my peeps in the development community that the DDRB approved the dome lighting but denied the parapet lighting, though the denial was a “denial without prejudice,” meaning that the T&P could come back with a revamped parapet lighting scheme for consideration at a later date.
Not sure why the DDRB didn’t like the proposed parapet lighting, but at least the dome lighting’s a go. It’s going to be great to see the gorgeous T&P lit up at night.

any idea when we could possibly see the lights turning on?
I am the elected residents rep here and one of the first iniatives we undertook was to bring this whole facility back to its original splendour. We have also hosted Fernando Costa, Asssisstant City Manager, Joel Burns District 9 Councillor, speak here and JD Granger discussing the Lancaster Corridor and the Trinity River Project. We try to hold Forums that are all about the beautification of this great city. These have been very well attended.
We are stressing the importance to bring to fruition not only this building, but the continuation of the whole Lancaster Corridor, including such fantastic things as the complete renovation of the Post Office next door (that is a majestic capital city style architecture), the renovation of the massive Texas and Pacific Warehouse further down the street and the retail shops along Lancaster including quainte bistros and shops. Later this year magnificent stainless steel art sculptures are being installed along the street towering into the sky. With the completeion of our building, the Water Gardens the renovated Sheration and the Omni nearing completion, street lighting and benches, we are half way there.
Fernando Costa and this city has wonderful forward thinking, BUT with the incredible work beginning on the fabulous Trinity River Project, as our mothers taught us, WE MUST FINISH WHAT WE STARTED!!! We have made many improvements to this building and I am presently attempting to get the lobbies grinded and polished also to the TRE main hall’s impecable beauty (check the TRE’s main hall if you ahve time; restored to its art deco origins). For the first time in decades we also cleaned off our brass turnstile front doors and began using them during day hours. This area is an up and coming area in Fort Worth so come visit us and have a drink at the new pub opening some time this year in the bottom floor of our building by two of our own residents. they are refurbishing the old Texas and Pacific Grill from the 40′s and 50′s back to its splendour also…we will continue to find ways to bring this building back to an elegant place in this city. the lighting is meant to portray elegance, NOT tackiness and we wish to take every measure to give a fantastic aura:) Thanks for the support to residents of Fort Worth and the local City Downtown Design Review Board!!!
