J & J's Hideaway Closes Shop

A note related to Museum Place – J & J’s Hideaway, the long-running bar between 7th & Darcy in the Cultural District, has closed. The Hideaway’s last night was last night – I was doing some photography around the Kimbell and could hear the celebration from the courtyard.

The Hideaway will be demolished soon as part of Museum Place. Soon after, the old Post Office across Darcy from it will be demolished as well, and then Darcy itself will be demolished. A mixed-use building with apartments over ground-floor retail will replace the Hideaway and the Post Office.

Responsible and thoughtful comments are welcome. Be aware, though, that this site exists in part as an advocacy site for New Urbanism and its potential to remake Fort Worth into an even more livable city than it is today. Thoughtful dissent is generally welcome insofar as it fosters thoughtful replies. Inflammatory dissent, whether intentional or not, will be deleted. Commenters whose comments we routinely delete will be banned. Nothing personal, but this is a privately owned and operated web site, and we are aiming for a specific tone and audience. Work within those guidelines and all will be well.

It was very bittersweet. The crowd was a nice collection of the generations of the faithful and the curious.
It seemed that around 1AM the mood tapered with a modicum of denial. Much like your beloved old dog you have to put down. Only a handful stayed til close and walked out with a few souvenirs. I had heard a rumor about the demo beginning today (14th), but August 1st seems more realistic.
