TCC Buys Radio Shack Headquarters, Cancels 2nd Half Of New Campus

Yep. As I’ve reported over at West & Clear, Tarrant County College is throwing in the towel on completing its new downtown campus, and is instead buying Radio Shack’s headquarters on the other side of the courthouse from their property. TCC is saying this will not affect construction of the first half of the new campus, which is already significantly underway, but that they are canceling the other half of the campus across the river.

This brings to mind a few questions:

1) What’s going to happen to the land TCC has torn up but not finished downtown? I’m thinking especially of the location of the proposed plaza next to the courthouse. Hopefully their plans include finishing it, rather than letting it sit vacant or turning it into the last thing we need – a parking lot.

2) What’s going to become of the old TXU power plant across the river from Radio Shack, which I believe TCC also owns?

3) Where’s Radio Shack going to go? There’s not much office space vacant in downtown, and I would be surprised if Radio Shack is in a position to build new again.
