Village at Camp Bowie at council meeting tonight

The next phase of the Village at Camp Bowie, the makeover of the existing shopping center on historic Camp Bowie Blvd. into a mixed-use urban development, goes before the council tonight. The developers are seeking $6.28 million in tax breaks for the project.

The development would add a hidden parking garage and nearly 300 apartments over new retail space in mixed-use structures to the center. Interestingly, this is a bit of a conflict for councilmember Chuck Silcox, who has long opposed tax breaks but has praised this particular development, which is in his district. The Star-Telegram has a little more on the council drama surrounding this project: Doin’ the Silcox Squirm
