Just a quick update on a couple of downtown condo developments. Looks like the Versailles (on Henderson across from Radio Shack) is now underway with their second phase:
From what I understand, original Versailles architect Ken Schaumburg (of Le Bijou, Pecan Place, Cassidy Corner, Magnolia Green, Schaumburg Lofts, Bluff Street Lofts, and I’m pretty sure a bunch of other things fame) isn’t involved in this phase, so I’m guessing that Phase 2 will just copy the look of his (classy, IMHO) original (though am I wrong, or are most of the windows not operable?). No points for creativity, then, but it’s a much better use of the site than the Greek restaurant stuck behind a parking lot that used to be there.
Meanwhile, down the street, Westview is coming together:
To be honest, I wasn’t sure I would like the siding, but seeing a nearly-completed building now, they look pretty good. I could sure go for more windows on the sides, but beyond that they’re not bad. They come right up to the street nicely. They occupy a nice price-point, starting at around $150,000, and it’s good to see some more affordable stuff right in downtown.
