Better image of Museum Place Post Office

We’ve gotten ahold of a much better image of the new Museum Place Post Office thanks to our good friends at TownSite Co.:

title=”movingisnotfun”, stress=”yes”

This is Moving Week. As such, I can’t guarantee that updates to the site here will be at their usual regular pace. I will try my best. Hopefully, Charter will be able to get my Internet access moved over smoothly. If not, I have at least found a wireless network without [...]

Grist for the Rumor Mill: “Left Bank” property sold

We’re hearing rumors now that Ken Schaumburg has sold his “Left Bank” property on the west bank of the Trinity off 7th to N3 Capital, and a project is in the planning (being led by Crescent Real Estate ex-CEO Jerry Crenshaw) that would be a $3.5 billion upscale development.
That is literally all we’ve heard, so [...]

West 7th demolition underway

Looks like things are moving on the big West 7th development very quickly. Already, demolition is taking place on the block bounded by 7th, Currie, Crockett, and Norwood. Thought not shown in the photo above, the old used car lot at 7th & Currie has been completely demolished, as have several buildings on [...]

Museum Place progress

Work continues on the first building of the Museum Place development at University/7th/Camp Bowie/Bailey. Grading seems complete and drilling is now underway.
In the rendering below, the building currently under construction is on the right. The building on the left will replace the Texaco station currently across the street.

Updated rough draft of downtown streetcar circulator system

After much debate, helpful comments, and research, we’ve considerably altered and refined our rough draft proposal for a downtown streetcar system. With the addition of directional arrows and two-way tracking where possible, this looks more flexible. Take a look at tell us what you think in the comments.

Fort Worthology Draft Proposal for Downtown Streetcar Circulator

A sneak peek at some of the stuff we’re working on for our Streetcar page - our own proposed downtown streetcar system, color-coded to represent the various phases/routes/components. This is just a rough draft. We’re also working on similar proposals for Uptown, the Cultural District, and Fort Worth South.

Westview progress

The Westview by CityHomes development on at Texas & Henderson is making progress, with the facade going up on the first structure and framing mostly complete on the Henderson frontage. Westview is a complex of condos between the Firestone Apartments and the AMLI Upper West Side apartments. Prices start from the $150,000s. [...]

Caceria Building nearly topped out

Wagner Oil’s Caceria Building, the new 7-story office/retail building at the corner of 5th & Commerce, is one floor away from topping out. The facade should start going up soon.

I’m moving - wish me luck!

I’ve been fairly quiet about this thus far, but might as well let you all know what’s going on in case posting gets erratic in the not-too-distant future:
I’m moving in less than two weeks.

If the photo above doesn’t give it away, I’m departing my current downtown abode and heading a few blocks away to Sanger [...]

Omni Hotel & Condos construction progress

It’s risen enough to poke its way above the trees as seen from the top of the Mountain in the Water Gardens. The steel beam portion, for the curious, will be the ballroom - the steel works better than concrete for large, open spans.

Fort Worthology at the Arts Goggle!

That’s right - once again, Fort Worthology will be participating in the Fort Worth South Arts Goggle on September 7th! I’ll be exhibiting photos once more at the office of Urban Realty Resources on the second floor at the corner of Magnolia & College above the Police Station. Stop by from 5:00 PM [...]

Downtown Sheraton redevelopment progress

The old Plaza Hotel down by the Water Gardens is now deep into its complete renovation into a Sheraton. These photos show the progress being made on the building, including what appears to be a shot of the new facade being installed.
It will be interesting to see the change in the building’s appearance when [...]

Carnegie construction progress

Work has begun on the Carnegie’s 8th floor, putting the building at the halfway point. It is already becoming apparent how much bulk and sense of enclosure it will add to 3rd Street.
I know the modernists hate Schwarz’s buildings, but I’m still a fan. I dig traditional architecture when done right, and Schwarz [...]

Fort Worthology Tours?

We’re thinking about setting up walking tours of urban Fort Worth. We’d probably start with downtown before doing tours of other areas, but eventually we’d like to do several neighborhoods in urban Fort Worth. These would mainly come from an architectural/historical point of view, along with new developments. Anybody out there think [...]

SoDo Grill replacing Branding Iron Grill

Looks like the SoDo name will be getting more public attention, as the now-departed Branding Iron Grill on Houston Street is being replaced by the SoDo Grill.
Meanwhile, across the street, Zambrano nears completion, and is now sporting a nifty sidewalk dining area.

Omni Hotel condo floorplans released

Omni Hotels has released floorplans for the condos in the new downtown Omni currently under construction across from the Convention Center. The units range from 873 square feet to 4,935 square feet, with prices at around $400 per square foot.
Click the images below to view bigger versions of the floorplans. For more information [...]

Another great night at Lili’s

I think this is turning out to be one of the best places in Fort Worth, period. We returned last night and tried a couple of different things. I had the Grilled Halloumi, a cheese from Cyprus lightly grilled and served with focaccia and raspberry sauce. It was quite unlike any cheese [...]

Wendy Davis resigns council seat

Just three months after winning reelection, District 9 councilperson Wendy Davis has resigned her seat for a run at state senate. A special election could be held November 9th to select a replacement.
Fort Worthology officially re-endorses Bernie Scheffler of Panther City Bicycles fame for District 9 City Council. Bernie made an extremely strong [...]

Two City Place over half leased

Two City Place, the Class-A office redevelopment of the north Tandy Center tower, has reached 55% occupancy with the arrival of more tenants, according to the Star-Telegram. Besides the office tenants, a bank and a Subway will be going in to the building’s ground floor retail spaces.
Work on converting One City Place, the south [...]

The Omni in the Skyline

These two renderings by fellow Fort Worthian Clint Perkins show the Omni Hotel’s impact on the city skyline. The first rendering depicts the view from the east, while the second shows the western view. Click the images for bigger versions:
