West 7th development bigger than originally thought

Fort Worthology previously reported on West 7th, the upcoming development by Cypress Equities on the old Acme Brick site on 7th Street. We have now learned that the project is much larger than we had originally thought.

West 7th will be bounded by 7th on the north, Morton on the south, Foch on the east, and will stretch all the way to University on the west. Six full blocks will be taken for the development. This reveals what we have been wondering for some time - what would happen with the property between the Acme site and University? We’re thinking here of the old abandoned used car lot, the mid-century industrial structures, and the former Taylor Rentals property on University. It now looks like all of this will be replaced by West 7th’s taller mixed-use structures. This also means that the big University/7th/Camp Bowie/Bailey intersection will be radically increased in density, with Museum Place on the west side of the intersection already known and West 7th on the east side of the intersection now stretching all the way to the intersection itself.

This also makes us wonder about the legendary Fred’s Cafe, which is within these boundaries.

We’ll be watching the progress on West 7th, and bring you updates as we get them.
