The Good, the Bad, and the Modern

One of the other new features here at Fort Worthology is the “Asides” category - a place for quick, short posts of commentary or interesting offsite links. They’re styled a bit differently from normal posts, as you can see. Here’s our first.

Much has been said about the Anthony Mariani flap, and Steve at the Caravan of Dreams said enough for me, for the most part. If I may interject a few thoughts:

  1. We don’t talk about Dallas here, because none of us cares about Dallas. We don’t hate it, really - we just can’t be bothered.
  2. “Progressive” modern architecture isn’t always progress. The notion that “modern” architecture is good, and neo-traditional stuff like, say, David Schwarz’s, is bad seems ridiculous to us.
  3. If Anthony meant his FW Weekly piece roasting the Fort Worth Architecture forum posters in jest, he might have made that more clear. If not, he ought to chill out and not use the paper to start flame fests. I’m just sayin’, is all.
