Still no word on Landmark Tower site

To answer a question we get a lot - no, we don’t yet have any clue what XTO Energy is doing with the Landmark Tower site. For the uninitiated, last year XTO imploded Landmark Tower, the ’50s International Style skyscraper at the corner of 7th & Houston. After the debris was cleared, the site was left with a very large, deep hole in the ground - which is how it still sits. Rumors have passed about as to what XTO plans to do with the site. Some say they’re going to stick a parking lot (ugh) on the site, others say a park with an underground parking structure, some say a new building. Nobody has given official word, the latest bit of rumor only being words of “it’s not going to be parking” being spoken by a few folks connected to downtown in some form.

The ground at the site seems to be sinking now, and the new 7th Street sidewalk that was built, opened, then quickly closed not long afterwards is now collapsing and falling into the pit. We wish that XTO would get the lead out and start to work on the site - preferably, by filling it with a new building(s).

So, that’s the current word there. If we learn more, we’ll report it.
