‘07 Building Boom - Count the Cranes

Fort Worth’s in the starting stages of quite the urban building boom, and several of the projects underway are big enough to require tower cranes for construction. For the curious, we’d like to run down the list of cranes in urban Fort Worth and what projects they’re part of.

  1. Crane on the Trinity Bluffs near the Tarrant County Courthouse - First buildings of the new Tarrant County College campus on the river, designed by Bing Thom.
  2. Two cranes in south downtown across from Convention Center - The Omni Hotel & Condos, featuring 604 hotel rooms and 97 condos.
  3. Crane next to Trinity Terrace on Trinity River near 7th Street - New 16-story 2nd building for Trinity Terrace.
  4. Crane at Baylor All Saints Medical Center in Fort Worth South - Construction of new Women’s Hospital, new office building, and two new parking garages.
  5. Crane at John Peter Smith Hopsital in Fort Worth South - Expansion project.
  6. Crane at TCU on University - New Student Union building, part of large-scale expansion efforts.

Two cranes going up:

  1. Crane at 3rd & Lamar in downtown - The Carnegie, new mixed-use 16-story tower designed by David Schwarz.
  2. Crane at 5th & Commerce in downtown - The Caceria Building, new 7-story mixed-use building being built by Wagner Oil.

More cranes likely to show up:

  1. So7 on W. 7th Street near Montgomery Plaza - Likely to be cranes involved for the construction of the So7 retail development on 7th and the associated RiverHouse lofts.
  2. Museum Place at University/Camp Bowie/W. 7th/Bailey - Likely to be cranes involved for some of the larger buildings in the Museum Place mixed-use development.
  3. West 7th on W. 7th & Currie - Likely to be cranes involved in the construction of some of the larger buildings of the West 7th development at the former Acme Brick headquarters site.

Whew! This doesn’t even make mention of the many smaller urban developments that don’t require cranes. Fort Worth is entering quite a nice boom period!
