Acme Brick site plans getting bigger

We reported earlier that plans were in the works for a mixed-use development at the site of the old Acme Brick headquarters on 7th Street in the Cultural District. Well, not only was our initial scoop correct, but the project has actually grown since our first report from the original two 120-foot buildings described.

Cypress Equities and Gideon Toal are planning a multiblock mixed-use facility on the Acme Brick site that will consist of several buildings. Most of the buildings will be about 75 feet tall, but now three of the buildings will be 120 feet. The development will include a hotel, a movie theater, retail stores, and homes (presumably in the form of condos/apartments and perhaps townhomes).

We’re glad that not only was our scoop correct, but that things have gotten even bigger. We’ll continue to bring you news on the Acme development as it becomes available.

The Star-Telegram, meanwhile, has a blip about the difficulties faced by Cypress & Gideon Toal on working around the height-restrictions imposed by the Amon Carter Museum view shed (which preserves views of downtown from the museum). Check Mike Lee’s article out here.

Responsible and thoughtful comments are welcome. Be aware, though, that this site exists in part as an advocacy site for New Urbanism and its potential to remake Fort Worth into an even more livable city than it is today. Thoughtful dissent is generally welcome insofar as it fosters thoughtful replies. Inflammatory dissent, whether intentional or not, will be deleted. Commenters whose comments we routinely delete will be banned. Nothing personal, but this is a privately owned and operated web site, and we are aiming for a specific tone and audience. Work within those guidelines and all will be well.
